Roundhouse: From Sound Boy to Streaming
The challenge
How do you transform passive viewing into a participatory experience? As one of the young people curating an exhibition at the Roundhouse centred on music and joy, I set out to make a motion piece exploring dance as a way to enjoy music.
The solution
Working with dancers and music producers, I directed the videos around small, personal moments of joy like dancing in your room. To make the videos feel relatable for the viewer, I set them in 3D home environments and opened with mundane moments — texting, doing makeup — before movement gradually took over. Each video is split into two parts: improvisation, then a chorus with repeated choreography. On-screen text made it clear when you could join in and repeat the moves. Instead of being pushy, I created a space where the viewer felt safe to dance.
